New Testament Prophecy is one book: Revelation. If the Old Testament prophets foretold the Messiah and God’s kingdom, this book reveals Christ’s return and last-days judgment and salvation in vision and symbol. From letters to the seven churches to the new heaven and new earth, it proclaims the completion of God’s kingdom.

Features of this prophetic book

  • The New Testament’s only prophetic book — Unlike Gospels and Epistles, it reveals the last days in vision and symbol (seals, trumpets, beasts, new Jerusalem).
  • Seven churches and letters — Letters to the seven churches of Asia (Rev. 2–3) hold the churches’ crises and Christ’s counsel and promises.
  • The end and hope — Through judgment, tribulation, and salvation it proclaims the Lamb’s victory and new creation (Rev. 21–22).

Purpose of writing

  • To a persecuted church it proclaims Christ’s rule and the hope of his return, and calls them to endure (Rev. 2–3).
  • Through visions of seven seals, four horsemen, seven trumpets, and seven bowls he revealed God’s judgment and saving work (Rev. 4–16).
  • “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy…” (Rev. 1:3). It prepares saints living in the last days to hold judgment and hope rightly.
