Micah Audio Sermons

Micah is a Minor Prophet book to Judah and Israel. It holds together judgment on social and religious corruption and hope in the Messiah and restoration.

Background of writing

  • Author and inspiration — Micah of Moresheth wrote under God’s inspiration (Mic. 1:1).
  • Date of writing — About 735–700 BC, in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah of Judah.
  • Historical setting — Under Assyria, Judah and Samaria were corrupt. Leaders and prophets exploited the people, and injustice was widespread.

Purpose of writing

  • He proclaimed judgment on greed, injustice, and idolatry, and required justice, mercy, and walking humbly with God (Mic. 6:8).
  • He prophesied the Messiah’s birth in Bethlehem (Mic. 5:2), the restoration of a remnant, and wonders like the days of the exodus (Mic. 7:15).
  • For believers in the last days it is a word to hold God’s justice and hope in the Messiah amid corrupt leadership and an unsettled world.
