Daniel Audio Sermons
Daniel holds the record and prophecy of Daniel in the courts of Babylon and Persia. His name means “God is my judge.” God’s sovereignty, the rise and fall of Gentile empires, and judgment and salvation at the end stand at its center, and he is called “the prophet to the Gentile world.”
Background of writing
- Author and inspiration — Daniel wrote under God’s inspiration (Dan. 7:1–2; 9:2).
- Date of writing — About 605–530 BC, some seventy-six years from the Babylonian exile into the Persian period.
- Historical setting — After Judah fell to Babylon, Daniel served with wisdom and faithfulness in the courts of Babylon and Persia, showing that God alone rules history.
Purpose of writing
- Before Nebuchadnezzar, Darius, and Cyrus he proclaimed God’s greatness and sovereignty (Dan. 2; 4–6).
- Through the vision of four kingdoms (Dan. 2; 7) and judgment and salvation at the end (Dan. 9–12), he prophesied that God’s kingdom will stand forever.
- Daniel’s trust in God amid exile and trouble is a pattern, and for believers who hope in the last days it is a word of God’s rule and salvation.
